Rozelle Fest is encouraging awareness that 19th March is Close the Gap Day – it is a great concern that the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and Non Indigenous people is 10 to 17 years.    If you think about how old your parents and grandparents are, and then consider whether they would be with us if they were non Indigenous?

Diabetes is a severe problem in remote communities – fresh food is often unavailable or unaffordable.   Corn Syrup used in bread and other food products found in supermarkets is thought to cause weight gain and blood sugar issues but there is often no other choice.  Alarmingly, there is often no palatable fresh drinking water in remote communities and soft drinks are cheaper than bottled water.

Two communities we work with are attempting to install water filters onto the taps of their public buildings, childcare centres and art centres.

Please join us for drinks at 667 Darling Street, Rozelle on March 19th to launch Tali Gallery’s new space and to raise awareness and funds to install water filters on taps in remote Desert Communities.

Please also consider joining in on Oxfam or ANTAR’s events (there is a picnic between 12 and 2pm on 19th March in Redfern Park) to draw attention to the need for health equality for all Australians.

We ask for a $5 donation (or more if you can afford it) towards our drive to bring water filters to two Desert Communities in particular where there is no fresh drinking water, where undrinkable and unsafe Artesian water flows from the taps, and where Coca Cola is $2.95 a litre and Bottled Water is $4.95 a litre.
